Whats the worst car you have had?

On the spur of the moment I bought a Saab 9000 at an Auction years ago, only 4 years old, top of the range turbo charged model with all the trimmings, was well pleased and thought I had a bargain!

Went ok for about 6 weeks then the trouble started......problem with the transmission, couple of grand to fix, then the turbo charger started playing up, fuck me that was expensive, then the air conditioning would only blow hot air, the heated seats wouldn’t turn off.

Cunt of a thing cost me a fortune at the time and ended up putting it back through the Auctions less than a year later as the mechanic rekoned it had more problems with suspension, didn’t lose much on the sale price but felt sorry for the poor cunt that bought it.

Who ever got it new must have driven it like a lunatic!!!!

My first car, Escort Mk2. Bird at work had it up for sale and I’d only started there a week before. She said her Dad was a mechanic so I gave her the full asking £900 without viewing.

A week or so later it pissed down as I left for work, got in the car and had a nice foot spa due to a huge fucking hole in the bulkhead that cost me £200 to get welded up.

Few days later the suspension went and whilst in the garage the mechanic pointed out all 4 tyres and the spare were illegal and the exhaust had a couple holes in it

1970 Fiat 500L in about 1984 (my first car). My girlfriend's Dad sold it to me for £25 (he thought he was doing me a favour!) He had bought it as spares for her Fiat 500.

Spent an age, loads of effort and tons of money getting it working and MOTd. It then spent about 6 months of the next year off the road as various odd bits broke. It was rare enough that breakers rarely had parts for it so you had to get them custom made in Italy and sent over (at some cost).

When I had had enough, I literally couldn't give it away. No interest at all even from 'we take anything' small ads.

Now of course it's a 'classic' and commands serious money for restored examples.

NB I named it Bastard as that's how I felt about it.

I have a long and rich history of wrong uns in my ownership history some were wrong uns because of perception others just plain wrong

Talbot Samba - Had it off my mum (as punishment for wrecking my Beetle. They did a respectableish Rallye version but this wasn't that. Chocolate Brown and the gearstick felt like you were stirring a chocolate pudding.

Skoda Rapide in Yellow: Had to put a manual switch on the fan and literally drown it every week after the head gsket went and warped the head. got it sorted on the cheap and to be fair it kept running. Was once on my way to Colchester on the A120 when the wheel came off and made its way into a field. Retrieved it. got recovered. Got home, bolted it back on carried on.

Worst was a 340 I bought because 'Volvos are safe and reliable innit.' Wallowing slow uncomfortable piece of absolute shite. The bottom end going because the previous owners wonderful mechanic son had kinked a hose was actually a blessing. It was my pleasure to drive it noisily to the breakers and have it taken off of my hands.


It was after this one I stopped buying on impulse got buses and lifts for a month and did some actual research and reading. (Pre internet)

not actually owned by me, but in 2004 i hired a Fiat Punto which was about two weeks old.
I drive it all around England for best part of a week.
This car had the most uncomfortable driver's seat I've ever encountered. I must have got through a can of Deep Heat in about three days, it made my muscles ache that much. I didn't expect that from a brand new car.
Also it just felt so odd to drive a car without a sizable bonnet in front of me and not to see a boot in the wing mirror when I was parking, as I was used to driving bigger cars.

Fucking Fiats! X-1/9 in green was just a money pit 0 bits broke on it that had no right to break - like a window winder...snapped- indicator stalk- snapped- used to be at the breakers yard every month it seemed for an alternator/windscreen wiper motor/starter motor- absolute lemon-

I also has a lancia monte carlo which was a fucking great car and had similar "issues with unreliability, when it went it was sensational and great for picking up skirt ...i upgrade the carburettors once day( or paid my mate to) and it unfortunately caught fire on its first run down the high street and set alight to a double decker bus

A Ford Escort. Forgive me, I was 18.

The BEST, however, is a Honda Jazz. SHIT name, "granny" car, bit ugly. Get nil points from anyone "cool" but that thing is UNBREAKABLE.

I am not mentioning the other car. Wife's choice!!

I once bought a Rover because of its Honda engine. Fucking suspension broke. Sold it. The Honda engine is probably still working on Mars.

Actually that sounds familiar. Mine was so ancient it had a rubber 'nipple' on the dashboard that you had to pump by hand as it had no electric washer system. This nipple was inevitably rotten, so I got an electric pump off a Saab (I think?) at a breakers, which was then wired up to Bastard.

Clearly not set up for such awesome power, the first time I used it, the water shot out of the nozzles, straight over the car and landed about 10 feet behind it.

My first car was a Citroen 2CV.

It was left hand drive, centrifugal clutch, push/pull gear knob, and if the battery was flat you could use a starter handle.

I did have a convertible roof, the seats were a bit like a deck chair and it had a 500cc engine.

It rarely started. Got rid of it after 6 months and replaced it with a Renault 12TL.

I bought my first car when I lived out in Aus for a few years back in the day. It was a 4 litre Ford Falcon station wagon. It was 'kin huge! A big old bench seat in the front that you could get 3 people on and big enough to sleep in the back. We'd sling our surf boards on the top a couple of cases of 'tinnies' on the back seat and spend the weekend looking for good surf and women. Good days.

Had a CR-V until recently, absolutely bomb proof. Would never hesitate to buy another Honda.

There are no worse cars, however, than the Vauxhall Zafira.

Had such a rumpus with the showroom manager when I threatened to drive it full on through the glass doors of his showroom. He eventually yielded an agreed to my requests regarding after service.

Aston Martin DB5, hard ride and no mod cons, currently driving a Ferrari 812 and yes I do come from a privileged, wealthy family
